Drawing from a classic 1930s design, the Collings Orchestra Model OM1 is ideal for finger stylists and flatpickers alike.
This Collings Orchestra Model OM1 dates to 2008 and is in good condition, with great action and a good neck set. This model is built using the pairing of a Sitka Spruce top with Tropical Mahogany for the sides, back, body blocks and neck, and Ebony for the bridge fingerboard and head plate. Fret wear is light, and there is some light play wear visible on the top and back finish. A top crack was cleat-repaired at The Twelfth Fret Repair shop and is solid.
This example has also been fitted with an L R Baggs active pickup set. The battery box is affixed to the neck block.
This guitar is sold with its original hard shell case.
More From The Builder On The Collings Orchestra Model OM1:
“‘OM’ stands for “Orchestra Model,” but 80 years after this body shape was first designed it has become the most popular 14-fret model with fingerstyle guitar soloists who choose to play on steel strings.
Yet flatpickers also find it appealing, and when the graceful cutaway is added these OMs are often used by lead players who routinely explore all 20 frets much as they would on an electric guitar.
The compact shape makes the Collings OM equally easy to handle onstage or when sitting on the couch, and the relatively shallow body (barely over 4 inches deep) results in balanced tone and an immediate response.”
