❌SOLD❌ Collings OM2H Orchestra Model Sitka Top, 2008

The Collings OM2H Orchestra Model is a top quality take on the classic OM guitars that date back to the late 1920s, as the great migration of banjo players to guitar began.

The OM is based on the 12-fret neck, 1928 Martin 000 body size, which was modified to allow the 14 fret neck that banjo players needed for higher position chording. The upper bouts were ‘flattened’ to accommodate this neck. The 14 fret neck was so successful that on steel string guitars, it completely displaced the 12-fret neck. It’s only in the last few years that builders have been offering 12 fret necks again.

This Collings OM2H Orchestra model is, like every other Collings we’ve seen, extremely well built and finished. Top quality woods and materials are used throughout. The standard materials for this guitar are a scallop braced, Sitka Spruce for the top, paired with Indian Rosewood for the sides, back, and head plate. The body blocks and neck are Mahogany, with Ebony for the fingerboard and bridge. Herringbone purfling inside ivoroid binding surrounds the top, and the backstrip is a ‘zipper’ design.

This guitar is in overall good clean condition and has been played. Fret wear is light, and the guitar plays cleanly. The finish has light wear and scuffing, as expected on a 12 year old instrument that’s been used as intended. These models deliver a well balanced, detailed tone with great harmonic representation throughout their range, and are well suited to fingerstyle playing.
