The Collings MT mandolin is based on the now venerable, but then groundbreaking, A-Style design introduced by Orville Gibson around 1902. This mandolin style doesn’t get much better than the Collings version.
This Collings MT, built during 2018 in Austin, Texas, features a custom Blonde finished, Engelmann Spruce top that very nicely matches its binding. An Eastern Flamed Maple for the carved back and sides, and Ebony for the fingerboard, bridge and head plate. The metal hardware is nickel plated. Collings is now using a combination of highly skilled hand fret work and PLEK system levelling, with a very positive result.
The finish is thin nitrocellulose lacquer. The blonde top is gloss, and the rest is satin; typically of Collings output, the finish quality is outstanding.
This instrument is in very clean, all original condition. It hasn’t been played much so its tone has not fully developed, but it is bright, airy, clear and clean, with a sweet edge to the treble.
The original Collings hard shell case is included.
