Collings CL Custom City Limits Aged Brock Burst, 2017 / *No Longer Available*

This beautiful Collings CL Custom, a City Limits model, was built during 2017 and sports an aged Brock Burst finish and a pair of ThroBak ERMXV pickups.

The Collings CL Custom is based on the classic single-cut, Mahogany and Maple solidbody design that’s proven itself since 1952. And it is a Collings, so the build and finish quality is about as good as it can possibly be, for production or custom hand-built models.

Collings says this about the CL Custom:

“Crafted with the finest seasoned maple and Honduran mahogany, the CL is built for tone. Lightweight, resonant mahogany combined with a carefully hand-set mortise and tenon neck joint bring tonal complexity and sustain to the table in spades. Sleekly contoured for comfort and style, we’ve brought new life to an American classic.”

The familiar single-cutaway body is Mahogany with a carved, nicely figured Maple cap. The back is comfort – contoured at both sides of the waist, and the control cavities got as much attention to detail as every other part of the guitar. The switch and control cavity covers are clear, allowing a view of the components. In the case of the control cover it also provide a view of the serial number stamped into the ledge supporting the cover.

The Mahogany neck features a long tenon for extra strength and stability, and carries a bound Rosewood fingerboard. This Collings CL Custom is based on the ‘standard’ CL, not the CL Deluxe, so the headstock does not have binding around the Ebony head plate. However, the fingerboard does have the Deluxe dual-parallelogram position markers.

The tuners are Collings-branded with ivoroid buttons, and an ABR-style bridge and stop tailpiece set are at the body.

For electronics, a pair of ThroBak ERMXV pickups were chosen. The ‘ERMXV’ expands to “Ed Reynolds Maximum Vintage”.

Standard volume and tone controls are used with DiMarzio 500K pots and Jupiter Vintage Yellow capacitors.

This example is in very good, clean condition and plays very well. Sold with its original hard shell case.
