It’s raining here today, but we’re inside with a new shipment of Collings steel string acoustic guitars. What could be better?The Collings 01E is a slightly customized version of Collings’ smallest regular guitar – the 01 – with an Engelmann spruce top rather than the stock Sitka Spruce.In terms of body style, the Collings 01 is derived from a Ditson version of the Martin single-0 guitar.Engelmann spruce can be a bit warmer and more responsive, and more suited to fingerstyle and softer playing than Sitka spruce – which can be very bright and punchy and really work well for hard strumming. Engelmann spruce also tends to open and mature in tone faster than Sitka. Finally and visually, Engelmann is really quite a bright white, moreso than Adirondack or Sitka.Read about the Collings 01E at the Collings Website here |

Mahogany neck with unbound ebony fingerboard. The 01 comes with a stock short scale length of 24 7/8 inches, and this example has a 1 3/4 inch nut width. 14 inch to 26 inch compound fingerboard radius and Mother of Pearl dot inlays. |

20 frets, 14 to the body; Medium profile 18% nickel silver fretwire. |
Body |
Collings 01 (Single 0) body with Engelmann Spruce top and mahogany back and sides. Scalloped (pre-war style) Spruce braces. Faux Tortoise binding and pickguard. Ebony bridge. |
Finish |
High gloss clear nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Collings finishes are characteristically very level and are about the best you’ll see. |
Hardware/electronics |
Nickel-plated Waverly 16:1 ratio tuners, bone nut and saddle, ebony bridge pins and endpin. |

Collings guitars leave their shop with a very good setup. Of course, we will be happy to make any adjustments the player requires. |
