The Caparison Dellinger Bass has been around for some time, and here we have a prototype built for Mike LePond of Symphony X during 2009.
Caparison guitars and basses have been built in Japan since 1995. The company was founded by the Charvel / Jackson Japan design group, and production was contracted to high end builders. In 2011, the company was bankrupt for a few months and re-opened under new ownership based in Cardiff, Wales.
This Caparison Dellinger Bass custom prototype was built during 2009 and purchased by the current owner from Mike LePond himself around 2013. It features an Alder body with a black satin finish and a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder P-J (Precision and Jazz) pickup set, a very popular and versatile arrangement. The controls are Volume and Blend between the two pickups.
The neck is a five piece Maple and Walnut design with separate Maple fingerboard , finished Natural and sporting distinctive oval, Mother of Pearl and Abalone ‘Clock’ position markers. The bridge is a Wilkinson model built by Gotoh, and the body has routed and finished cavities right behind the bridge to allow easier string changes without damaging the top finish. Tuners are Gotoh HAP (Height Adjustable Post) models that allow fine adjustments to the down bearing on the nut.
This rare bass is in overall good condition with some wear to the finish on the back. It plays well and cleanly.
The original black Caparison hard shell case is included.
