The Martin D-35 is one of the mainstays of the Dreadnought Acoustic lineup, delivering a strong, full bass response for bluegrass and folk styles.
Introduced in 1965, the D-35 uses the same square shoulder design as Martin’s other D models, but with a three-piece Rosewood back. Since 1971, only Indian Rosewood has been used on this model. Prior to that, Brazilian Rosewood was used for the sides and all or part of the back. The top is Sitka Spruce, with Mahogany for the neck and Ebony for the bridge and bound fingerboard.
This example of the D-35 dates to 1975 at the Martin plant in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. It is in good playing order and has just received a neck reset and setup at The Twelfth Fret Repair Shop. A small crack in the top between the pickguard and bridge under the high E has been reglued. This type of crack was fairly common when Martin glued the pickguard directly to the top, rather than to the finish as is their current practice. The back had a small crack in the center panel towards the tail block and next to the bass side of the center strip. Considering that this guitar is now 43 years old, it’s in remarkably good condition.
Fret wear is light, but with the setup the frets have been polished and wear is not noticeable. It plays nicely and has a very full sound, with deep bass and sparkling highs.
The original blue molded Martin hard shell case is included.
