The C F Martin 000-18 is one of the classic American guitars, used by countless players since its introduction in 1908, 110 years ago. The design has undergone many changes but the 000-18 remains a very versatile instrument.
The well-worn example seen here dates to 1956 and was built at the C F Martin facility in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. It’s built with a spruce top, mahogany for the sides, back, and neck, with rosewood for the fingerboard, bridge and headplate. This guitar has had many rear crack repairs over the years and some finish touch ups. The neck finish is quite worn, but the result is that the slim V profile is very comfortable and smooth. Fret wear is moderate to heavy, and the fingerboard shows some fingernail wear. It plays quite well, because at some point it’s had the neck reset that nearly every guitar of a certain age will need. Unfortunately, during the disassembly for the reset, the treble side cracked, one of the risks when taking apart the neck joint. This has been repaired and finished over. There is an amount of overspray touch up on other parts of the body.
An LR Baggs soundhole pickup has been installed, and is wired to an endpin jack.
The C F Martin 000-18 body style has a more balanced harmonic representation than the jumbo styles like the Dreadnought – the D or J body sizes, which can be a bit bass-heavy – and this suits it well to folk and blues styles.
Overall, this is a very nice little guitar to play; it has had a lot of experience so it sounds great.
A generic, non original hard-shell case is included.
