Brand: Breedlove
Instrument Categories: Mandolins, REDUCED, SOLD
The Breedlove Quartz OF is an A-Style mandolin, the ‘O’ indicating an Oval body and the F, F Holes. Like other Breedlove mandolins, it has been out of production since 2016. ‘Quartz’ is the term Breedlove assigned to their entry-level US built mandolins. That name is possibly a reference to a mountain not far from the Breedlove shop, then located in Tumalo, Oregon.
Following the basic design pioneered by Orville Gibson in the late 1900’s, the Breedlove Quartz OF A-Style mandolin features the ‘teardrop’ or Oval body design with F holes. The materials are Sitka Spruce for the top, Maple for the sides, back and neck, and Ebony for the fingerboard, bridge and head plate. Here, the original tailpiece has been replaced with an aftermarket Allen model, likely an MR2.
This Breedlove Quartz OF is in great condition with very little wear of any kind. It plays well, and has a bright, full tone and good projection.
The original Breedlove-branded hard shell case is included, and it’s also in great condition.
In late 2015, Breedlove announced that, beginning in 2016, US Mandolin production would be suspended while they restructured their manufacturing layout. However, to date, new mandolins have not reappeared on their website.
