Drawing from the iconic and sought after pre-war Dreadnoughts, the Bourgeois Signature D Madagascar serves up a rich combination of tone, presence and volume.
Madagascar Rosewood is considered a visual and tonal equivalent to Brazilian Rosewood, though with a bit less orange to the colour. On this Bourgeois Signature D, it’s paired with Adirondack Spruce, as used on most of the best pre-WW2 steel string guitars. Adirondack was replaced by Sitka Spruce for a practical reason: it has a somewhat higher strength under heavy load than Sitka, and was the favorite for the airframes of WWII aircraft. This led to over-harvesting, and regrowth has taken decades.
Here we’re looking at a Bourgeois Signature D Madagascar with optional Adirondack Spruce top, built during 2009 in Lewiston, Maine. The neck is Mahogany, with Ebony for the fingerboard and bridge, and Madagascar Rosewood also used for the head plate. Body binding is Maple, with Herringbone purfling around the top. Mother of Pearl is used for both the dot position markers and the Bourgeois headstock logo. For metal hardware – well, that’s just the gold-plated Waverly tuners; this is a strictly acoustic guitar with no electronics. The finish is a gloss lacquer with an ‘aged’ toner providing an ambered tint.
Overall this Bourgeois Signature D guitar is in good condition with light fret and finish wear. The back has had several cracks repaired by The Twelfth Fret Repair Shop. It plays well, and has a full, rich sound with plenty of volume and projection.
The original Bourgeois branded hard shell case is included.
