The Twelfth Fret ~ Since 1977 ~

❌SOLD❌ Bourgeois Piccolo Parlor Guitar, No. 1 of 15, 2010

Brand:

Instrument Categories: , ,

The parlor guitar is likely a direct descendant of the not much earlier Romantic guitar design, with a full 25 inch scale length but a smaller, compact body. Parlor guitars were commonplace until the 1930s when the Dreadnought design became the dominant player in the volume wars.

Built in the Dana Bourgeois shop in Lewiston, Maine, as the first in a limited edition run of fifteen guitars, this Bourgeois Piccolo Parlor Guitar, is a modern example of the style. It uses top quality materials, is built and finished extremely well, as standard for all Bourgeois instruments. Mahogany is used for the sides, back and neck, Adirondack spruce for the top, ebony for the fingerboard and bridge, and Ziricote for the head plate. The position marker inlays are mother of pearl ‘snowflakes’. The nut and saddle are ivory, with Waverly open-gear tuners at the head; there are no electronics or pickups. The ‘rope’ style binding is a very attractive touch.

This guitar plays well and has recently been in our shop for a setup. It has a few small dents that have been professionally filled.

Most Parlor guitars that we see are older, some much older like the 1820 Stephan Thumhart posted earlier. It is interesting to see and hear how these would be built for today’s playing styles, and of a grade for a professional player.

The original hard shell case is included.
