The Boucher Wild Goose 000 is built using Adirondack spruce for the top and bracing – the Boucher Shop is located in Quebec’s Adirondack mountains, a bit east of Quebec City on the South Shore, and the spruce is local. These are great playing and sounding instruments.
This Boucher Wild Goose 000, built during 2012 is in great condition with only light wear. This model is now discontinued, as Boucher now focuses on Studio, Bluegrass and Heritage Goose models. These guitars are all very well built and definitely worth reviewing if you have the chance.
For those not from Canada, the term Goose is used as the Canada Goose is an iconic (and protected) animal, and gaggles of Canada Geese are very commonly seen in parks, lawns and in V formations in the air except in winter months, when they have flown south. (These birds are not necessarily overly friendly, and are in some areas coming to be also known as ‘Cobra Chickens’).
It features a gloss Sunburst finish for the Adirondack Spruce top, reminiscent of the darker sunbursts used on vintage Gibson acoustic models. The back and sides are Indian Rosewood, and have a clear gloss finish. The Mahogany neck gets a low-friction Satin finish, and the bound Ebony fingerboard is unfinished except for light oils. The bridge and headplate are also Ebony. A small faux-tortoise finger rest style pickguard is also added to the top – on the finish, not directly to the wood of the top.
The 000 body size is very well suited to fingerstyle and solo players, as it provides a more balanced harmonic response compared to large body dreadnought guitars or small parlor models. It’s easy to get a smooth, even tone that does not over-emphasise either bass or treble ranges.
The original tweed hard shell case is included.
