Here we have a rate Marc Beneteau Cutaway Dreadnought featuring a Sitka Spruce top paired with Mahogany for the sides, back and neck, built during 1993 at the Beneteau shop in St. Thomas, Ontario.
This Beneteau Cutaway Dreadnought is built with Sitka Spruce for the top, Mahogany for the sides, back, body blocks and neck. The fingerboard, bridge and head plate are Indian Rosewood and the binding around the body and neck are Maple. A Fishman pickup set has been installed with an endpin jack, and the battery for its preamp is mounted on the neck block. Tuners are a chrome Gotoh set. The finish is a light nitrocellulose lacquer coat with expected and natural checking. The sound is full and rich with plenty of high-end sparkle.
This guitar plays well with a fairly low action height. The saddle is fairly low. Over time, the neck joint on virtually all steel string acoustic guitars will ‘settle’ and the action will rise, and ultimately service called a ‘neck reset’ will be required. This Beneteau Cutaway Dreadnought uses a hybrid bolted tenon joint, making the reset considerably easier, faster, less complex and less expensive than on a traditional dovetail design.
A black hard shell case is included.
Marc Beneteau has been building since 1974, with his first shop in Ottawa Ontario and since 1986 in St. Thomas.
