Here we have a gently used, very clean Alhambra CS-3-S-E12 Crossover, pairing Cedar with Indian Rosewood and a Fishman transducer set. This lovely, versatile instrument is in very good condition with its original hard shell case.
Built by one of Spain’s larger makers, the Alhambra CS-3-S-E12 Crossover was aimed at players generally from the steel string world who need a cutaway, crowned fingerboard and a pickup system.
The ‘Crossover’ concept is a relatively new development for the nylon-string world and appeals to many players, particularly those in Latin Jazz genres who need to amplify their instruments. Typically, there is a cutaway, a narrower crowned fingerboard, a thinner body as installed pickups provide volume, and an angled saddle for improved intonation on the low strings. And in a huge break from tradition, there’s an adjustable truss rod!
The Alhambra CS-3-S-E12 Crossover is from Alhambra’s recent ‘Serie S’, which alters the top bracing for increased volume. The top is solid Red Cedar, paired with back sides headplate and bridge of Indian Rosewood. The body blocks and neck are an African Mahogany, in Spain referred to as “Samanguilla”, technically ‘Khaya senegalensis’. The fingerboard is Ebony. The headstock and bridge have light-coloured accents matching the binding and heel cap, likely Maple. The tuners are high quality with gold colouring and black buttons.
As a Crossover model, the Alhambra CS-3-S-E12 features a factory installed pickup system with controls on the bass side waist. The E12 in the model number indicates that a Fishman Ellipse Blend pickup / mic / preamp system is installed, with the output jack and standard 9v battery box on the treble side near the tail block.
Built during 2020 at the Alhambra shop in Muro de Alcoy, Alicante Spain, this guitar was originally purchased new in early 2022. It is in excellent condition with virtually no wear.
