The Taylor 914ce resides in the higher end of Taylor’s Spruce and Rosewood models. Using the Grand Auditorium design with both a cutaway and an ebony Laskin Armrest and lots of shell trim, the Taylor 914ce is a spectacular guitar – in tone, playability, comfort and appearance.
Built with a Sitka Spruce top and Indian Rosewood for the back and sides, the Taylor 914ce uses a venetian cutaway and the Laskin Armrest design; both of these make the guitar far more accessible and comfortable.
The 914ce neck is built with mahogany and ebony for the 25.5 inch scale fingerboard and headstock. The nut width is 1.75 inches. The ‘Ascension’ inlay set in Paua is used and is very pretty.
Of course, the Taylor 914ce carries the Expression System 2 pickup system.
Introduced by William ‘Grit’ Laskin around 1979, the Laskin Armrest adds a bevelled section of ebony on the lower bass bout so that the player’s arm doesn’t hang on a sharp corner. It has great benefits to the player in both the short and long term; it is immediately comfortable and avoids the long-term damage to muscles nerves that can occur with the standard guitar design.
