Brand: David Wren
Instrument Categories: Acoustic Steel String, Guitars, SOLD
David Wren has been a fixture on the Canadian Lutherie scene for decades and as his shop is quite close to The Twelfth Fret, we see a fair amount of his excellent work. Seen here is a custom Concert guitar, sporting a number of advanced features and built with Brazilian Rosewood.
Built during 2015 and based on the core Wren Concert body, this guitar adds a soundport, the RFX or Raised Fingerboard Extension, and a Manzer Wedge body treatment. The RFX and the Manzer Wedge are significant enhancements and we’ve added links to both the Wren Guitar Works website for an explanation of the RFX and Manzer Guitars for Linda Manzer’s article on the development of the Manzer Wedge – and her 42-string guitar for Pat Metheny! Please do check these links, you will find them interesting and informative.
For this Wren Concert, the top is Sitka Spruce, the neck is mahogany with an ebony bound fingerboard, and the sides, back, headplate and truss rod cover are Brazilian Rosewood. The bridge is ebony. The scale length is 25.4 inches and the nut width is 1.75 inches. For hardware, Gotoh 510 brushed brass/ebony tuners are used. The always tasteful Wren inlay at the 5th fret is very nicely executed in various colours of shell. A thin scratch plate is installed to the top. The original tweed TKL hardshell case is included.
This top quality instrument is in very good condition with some slight play wear near the edge of the scratch plate.
