| Comments | Rickenbacker introduced the 4001 bass in 1961 as an improved version of their first bass, the 4000 (introduced in 1957). The 4001 sported the same distinctive ‘crested wave’ body shape, but added a neck pickup and the cast bridge with built-in adjustable mute. It was produced until 1981, and was replaced by the 4003 which had improved truss rods, allowing use of higher-tension roundwound strings. This 2009 Rickenbacker 4001 C64 bass is a reproduction – except for the updated trussrod system – of what was available in 1964, and in reference to the left-handed model given to Paul McCartney, has the ‘reversed’ headstock. It’s in excellent condition and has that Rickenbacker look, sound and feel. The bridge has been replaced by a direct drop-in replacement Hipshot bridge. No more lifting!
