Brand: Benko
Instrument Categories: Classical and Flamenco, Guitars, SOLD
Instruments by Benko Musical have a special connection to The Twelfth Fret – from 1954 to the 1970’s, the Benko shop occupied what became our original location. Frank Benko was an instrument builder from Croatia who settled in Montreal, later Toronto, and built a number of traditional European instruments such as the Brac and the mandolin, as well as guitars.
Dating to January 1999, this is a european-style classical guitar with a Sitka spruce top and Brazilian Rosewood back and sides and ebony fingerboard and bridge. The C-profile neck is mahogany with no headplate. The finish is a very well done nitrocellulose lacquer. The scale length is 648 mm, and the nut width is 50 mm. The body is unusually deep for a classical – 120mm at the tail block – to enhance bass response. It is in very good condition with no evidence of damage or repairs. The original case, hand built by John Benko, is included.
