The Bond Electraglide is a rare and historically notable instrument. Built during 1984 and 1985 at the Muir of Ord in northern Scotland, it was one of the first carbon fibre electrics. Aside from the carbon fibre body, it featured a stepped phenolic rather than a traditional fretboard, and a fully active electronic control circuit requiring a separate off-guitar power supply. The pickups are single coil units and the volume controls are rocker switches, with LED level readouts facing the player. About 1400 Electraglides were built, and the company closed in 1986. Andrew Bond died in 1999.
The Bond Electraglide was never common but can be heard on a number of recordings. Notably, it appears in a number of places on the U2 album ‘Joshua Tree’.
This Bond Electraglide was built early in the second half of production, as number 880. It is in good working condition, but the ‘frets’ have worn somewhat. The original hardshell Bond case is included.
