Brand: Fernandez
Instrument Categories: Classical and Flamenco, Guitars, SOLD
Here’s something rare and wonderful – from the top end of the 1960 to 1980 classical guitar world, an Arcángel Fernández gutar by Marcelo Barbero (Hijo) built in Madrid. Arcángel Fernández was a student of Marcelo Barbero, and following Barbero’s death his son ‘Marcelino’ joined the Fernandez shop. Arcángel Fernández is regarded as one of the finest guitar builders ever, particularly for Flamenco models, but his guitars are very hard to come by as many were purchased by collectors. Arcángel Fernández stopped taking orders for new instruments in 2007 at age 75, and Marcelino Barbaro died in 2007.
This guitar dates to 1971 and is in very good condition with light wear. The finish is very clean, with only a few small markings and the natural finish sinking to be expected from a quality, light lacquer coating. It was built at the Fernandez shop at Calle Jesús y María, 26 in central Madrid. The top is Spruce with Indian Rosewood for back, sides headplate and bridge, and the usual Spanish Cypress neck with ebony fingerboard. Scale length is a long 656mm and the nut is 54 mm. The tone is full and rich with a crispness and deep bass.
The label reads “Construida por MARCELO BARBERO (HIJO) para casa Arcángel Fernández Ano 1971”. In English, ‘Built by Marcelo Barbero (son) for the house of Arcángel Fernández’.
This guitar is being sold with a grey flight case by Mark Leaf.
