Brand: Gibson
Instrument Categories: Acoustic Steel String, Guitars, SOLD
The venerable Gibson J-45, introduced in 1942, has been the workhorse guitar for countless musicians – not too fancy but capable of delivering exactly what’s required. It can work extremely well with a vocal, and for that reason appears on innumerable stages and recordings. It’s one of my favourite guitar designs.
This is a 1966 Gibson J-45 ADJ – at the time of production, Gibson was installing an adjustable saddle made of rosewood or ceramic to make action adjustments simpler. The original plastic bridge on this example has been replaced with a traditional rosewood unit. The top has been oversprayed to complete a repair to the center seam, which was glued and cleated. These repairs were done by a very skilled person, and the guitar not only looks and plays well, it retains every bit of that wonderfully warm, vibrant J-45 tone. Over the years some fretwork was done; while there is some fretwear it plays cleanly. A modern black fibre case is included.
