Built from around 2001 to 2010, the National Model D squareneck resophonic guitar uses a wood body and single cone with a spider bridge. The body is built with Mahogany laminate for the top, and Walnut for the back, sides and 12-fret neck. Some models used laminate Spruce for the top, but this one is laminate Mahogany. In 2010, the Model D was replaced by the wood-bodied Smith & Young Model 11. National discontinued the Smith & Young line around 2015.

This Matthew Woodall Archtop uses a fairly traditional cutaway design, with a 17 inch wide body. The top is solid carved Spruce with bound F-holes, and the back is carved, bookmatched Spalted Maple. The sides and neck are also Maple and the body is bound with a faux-tortoise layer. The fingerboard, bridge and tailpiece are Ebony.

Part of the High Performance series introduced for the 2017 model year and currently out of production, the Gibson HP 415 CEX pairs a Sitka Spruce top and Black Walnut for the sides, back, rectangular bridge and fingerboard. The neck is Maple, and the body blocks are Mahogany. As stock, this model carried an L R Baggs Element pickup system, with the controls tucked under the bass edge of the sound hole.

Here we have a Taylor T5C2 Custom Walnut Top thinline electric, with a pair of humbucking pickups and a concealed Taylor ES system, dating to March 2007. The Taylor T5 has been popular with guitarists who have to fill a variety of musical roles but can’t carry multiple instruments. The mixture of magnetic pickups and acoustic transducers, with Taylor’s Expression System EQ and preamp, make it ideal for filling in for everything from acoustics to electrics.

Boucher HG24 M Heritage Goose Parlor 12 Fret Guitar

Here is a lovely Boucher HG24 M Heritage Goose Parlor 12 Fret Guitar, built with a Torrefied Adirondack Spruce top and Indian Rosewood for the back and sides. Once a dominant guitar design, the Parlor style guitar’s popularity faded along with the banjo and the introduction of Jumbo or Dreadnought body sizes in the early 1930’s. Parlor guitars tend not to be particularly loud, but do offer even, rich tone. As more players become interested in solo finger styles, the Parlor design is becoming more attractive again and builders are offering high-quality takes, such as the Boucher HG54 M.
