❌SOLD❌ Gibson Explorer Ebony, 2016

The Gibson Explorer was one of three radical new designs introduced in 1958, along with the Flying V, which made it into production, and the Moderne, which existed only in prototype. Despite best hopes, sales were poor and the models were discontinued in 1963. However, by the mid 1970’s musical tastes caught up to these 1958 models and they were re-introduced to production.

❌SOLD❌ Martin D-28 Dreadnought Natural, 1973

The Martin D-28 Dreadnought is one of the classic American guitars, used for countless performances and recordings since its introduction in 1931 as a 12-fret model. In 1934, it gained the 14-fret neck that is almost universally used now. The Dreadnought body design was first used by Martin for the Ditson company in 1916 but due to poor sales was retired until 1931, with the D-18 and D-28.

From its launch in 1949 until it was finally discontinued in 2017, the Gibson ES-175 Archtop Electric was the benchmark guitar for working jazz guitarists. The Gibson ES-175 archtop electric was in production for such a long time because it does exactly what many jazz and rock guitarists needed it to do.

❌SOLD❌ Larson Bros Prairie State Steel String Brazilian Natural, 1930s

❌SOLD❌ Larson Bros Prairie State Steel String Brazilian Natural, 1930s

Here’s a real beauty! This is a Larson Bros Prairie State steel string guitar, likely a Model 425 with a OOO sized body, Adirondack Spruce top paired with Brazilian Rosewood for the sides and back. It is likely that the bridge is a replacement – the original would have had engraved, inlaid stars on each of the bridge ‘wings’. The Larson Brothers, Carl and August, began working for the Robert Maurer guitar company in 1893. In 1900, Maurer decided to retire, and the Larsons and investors purchased the company. Over the years, Carl bought out the investors giving the brothers full control.
