Charvel guitars have a long standing reputation as the guitar for choice for modern players looking for a fast playing feature laden instrument. The new Charvel ProMod DK 24HH 2PT CM model from the Pro-Mod series boasts a feature set and playability that will rival instruments double the price. The first thing you may notice is the lovely roasted maple neck. In addition to the rich visual aesthetic the process of roasting the maple and taking out moisture makes for a more stable neck that won’t shift as much during seasonal and humidity changes. If you do need to adjust the neck there is a heel mounted truss rod adjustment wheel which makes small changes a breeze.
The Twelfth Fret
Introduced in 1938 and in constant production since then, the Gibson SJ200 is one of the largest and most recognisable steel string models. Here we’re looking at a very nicely preserved Gibson SJ200 dating to 1951 and built at the Parsons Street plant in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It is in overall rather good condition with some wear, but less than we often see on guitars approaching the 70 year old mark.

MORE →Here we have a lovely Josh House 000 model built in May of 2019 with Mahogany for the top, sides, back and neck, and Ziricote for the bridge, head plate and fingerboard. This Josh House 000 is a very well built guitar with a simple appearance. The body and neck are Mahogany with Spruce bracing for the top and back. The top uses solid linings, the back linings are reverse-kerfed and it’s very cleanly built inside. On the inside of the top, to the bass side of the fingerboard tag, there’s a hand-written note “Built by Josh House May 2019”.

MORE →The Collings City Limits Deluxe, part of the CL line, draws from the proven combination of a Maple cap on a Mahogany body, providing warmth, clarity and sustain. This Collings City Limits Deluxe was first shipped and sold in March of 2008, and as Collings assigns serial numbers at start of production – which can take three to six months per instrument – this guitar would have been started in late 2007. It’s in very good clean condition with minor wear.

Featuring a wildly metallic sparkle layer on top of chambered, single cut Mahogany body with Maple laminate top, the Sparkle Jet is anything but subtle. The Gretsch Jet models were introduced in 1955 as a response to the Gibson Les Paul. At the time, Gretsch was resistant to solidbody designs and so the Jet is heavily chambered. The Mahogany back has spaces routed into it, and a Maple laminate top is applied.

Granadillo is similar to Indian rosewood but it tends to be slightly harder and denser. This produces a tone similar to Indian rosewood with a scooped midrange and extended bass and trebles but with an additional bell like chime to the top end.
