There have been a number of minor variations on the model since then. Here, we are looking at a Gibson ES335TD in gloss natural finish and all original condition except for one strap pin. It was built at the Gibson Kalamazoo plant and the serial dates it to July 6th, 1979.

The round shoulder mahogany dreadnought body and spruce top produces a warm, rich tone that works really well with voice. From 1999 to 2006, Gibson produced a variant of the venerable J-45, the J-45 Rosewood using Indian Rosewood instead of mahogany with all the warmth of the original plus extra depth and power.

Featuring the now-familiar solid mahogany body, the SG Custom differs from ‘lesser’ SG models with bound neck and headstock, ebony fingerboard with Mother of Pearl block inlays, gold hardware, either a Vibrola or Stop tailpiece, and often three pickups.
