❌SOLD❌ Gibson Les Paul Standard Sunburst, 1988

Gibson has reissued the Les Paul Standard Sunburst in its 1958 form several times, and here’s a nice one that dates to 1988 and carries Tom Holmes pickups. Built in the traditional manner, this Gibson Les Paul Standard Sunburst has a very nicely bookmatched, flame Maple top with a well faded cherry sunburst, now down to a tea-like tint. As usual, the body back and neck are Mahogany, with Indian Rosewood for the bound fingerboard.

❌SOLD❌ Gibson Firebird X Redolution, 2011

❌SOLD❌ Gibson Firebird X Redolution, 2011

The Gibson Firebird X was one of Gibson’s efforts to fully modernize the electric guitar. It starts with the basic ‘reverse’ offset chambered body built of Ash, and a set Maple neck with Maple fingerboard. The headstock is a more traditional Gibson layout rather than the ‘Fender-esque’ Firebird design. There are three new Firebird FBX mini-humbucker pickups, a tune-o-matic bridge with stop tailpiece, but from there everything is different.

Here we’re looking at a Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul Custom 1974 Reissue in Black, built during 2012 at the Gibson Custom Shop in Memphis, Tennessee. This guitar is in overall very good clean condition, with only light marking from use. The finish is dulling or oxidizing slightly, an expected reaction of a nitrocellulose lacquer finish over time.

❌SOLD❌ Gibson J-50 Slope Shoulder Dreadnought Guitar, 1953

❌SOLD❌ Gibson J-50 Slope Shoulder Dreadnought Guitar, 1953

The Gibson J-50 first appeared alongside the J-45 in 1952 as a pair of slope or round-shouldered dreadnoughts, the J-50 in Natural and the J-45 Sunburst. These models replaced the J-35, built from 1936 to 1942. The two guitars are structurally very similar, but the natural-finish J-50 received multi-layer top binding and better visual grade Spruce tops as there was no tint to hide imperfections. For this reason, the J-50 carried a higher price.

❌SOLD❌ Gibson ES335 Dot Neck Thinline Electric Sunburst, 1959

❌SOLD❌ Gibson ES335 Dot Neck Thinline Electric Sunburst, 1959

This Gibson ES335 Dot Neck Thinline, built during 1959 features the now standard construction – Maple laminate top, back and sides, Maple center block, Mahogany neck and bound Rosewood fingerboard.   For these early models, the Rosewood used was sourced from Brazil – at the time, this was an extremely common wood and used on even low cost instruments.  This guitar was originally shipped with a Bigsby tailpiece; this was removed, put in the case, and replaced with a stop tailpiece.
