❌SOLD❌ Replica Bigsby 49 Standard Birdseye Maple, 2019

Here is a very unusual guitar – a Replica Bigsby 49 Standard, reproducing one of the very few, very first, very influential solidbody electric guitars. Paul Arthur Bigsby was a machinist with a strong interest in motorcycles and, as it turned out, guitars. He built a number of pedal steel guitars, perhaps 50 Spanish style guitars, and designed a now widely used hand vibrato tailpiece for Merle Travis. As well, he replaced the neck on Merle’s Martin, with a much slimmer neck sporting the distinctive Bigsby headstock. This neck aided the Travis style, which involves wrapping the left thumb over the low strings for bass notes.

Airline Folkstar Electric Resophonic Guitar by Eastwood, Red

Airline Folkstar Electric Resophonic Guitar by Eastwood, Red

The Airline Folkstar, improved and re-issued by the Eastwood guitar company, brings back the 1950s Valco Folkstar resophonic aesthetic, but with a pair of pickups and a reasonable price.  Airline guitars were built by Valco, one of the largest instrument manufacturers in the world, from 1958 to 1868 when the company folded. The original Airline Folkstar used Valco’s Res-O-Glas body construction – fiberglass resin on wood – with a single resonator cone. It was entirely acoustic, and never had pickups

❌SOLD❌ Gibson Melody Maker Single Cutaway Sunburst, 1960

❌SOLD❌ Gibson Melody Maker Single Cutaway Sunburst, 1960

Introduced in 1959 as a student model just below the Les Paul Junior, the Gibson Melody Maker wound up in the hands of a number of professional rock guitarists. The Melody Maker was built from 1959 to 1971, in single and double pickup (the Melody Maker D) versions, in full scale and short scale. The original single cutaway model seen here was built until late 1960, then replaced with a double cutaway version. In 1966, the body shape changed to the pointed-horn SG style. In 1971, the line was dropped in favour of the SG-100 and SG-200 models, which lasted one year.

❌SOLD❌ Fender 51 Reissue Precision Bass MIJ Butterscotch, 2010

❌SOLD❌ Fender 51 Reissue Precision Bass MIJ Butterscotch, 2010

Here’s a revisit to the one that started the electric bass revolution – the Fender 51 Reissue Precision Bass, here seen as a Made In Japan version dating to around 2010 and carrying the classic butterscotch finish. As Leo Fender began producing amplifiers and electric guitars – both Spanish and Steel types – it became apparent that acoustic basses were not going to keep up, and were harder to play in tune.
