The Gibson ES-125 made its debut in 1941 as a student model – an affordable archtop electric, of maple laminate, one pickup and little decoration. Originally fitted with a ‘Blade’ style pickup, by 1947 a standard P90 was used. Production lasted until 1970. In 1956, the new thin body ‘ES-125T’ appeared and was available with two pickups and a cutaway.

MORE →Introduced in 1958, the Gibson ES-335 was one of the most significant guitar innovations and examples like this 1961 dot neck model are rare. Aimed at jazz players needing to play on ever-louder stages, the ES-335 had to provide arch-top tonality with feedback resistance. This wonderful example dates to 1961 and was built at the historic Kalamazoo, Michigan Gibson plant. It is a TDC model – Thin body, Dual pickup, Cherry finish.

MORE →This black Gibson ES-335, built at the Gibson Nashville plant and dating to August 18th, 1988 is in original condition, and plays well. The top’s finish shows some consistent lacquer checking, visible in the highlit top photograph. The back, sides and neck don’t show this nearly as much. Otherwise, the finish is in good shape with the minor scuffs expected on a 20 year old instrument. The components, including the stop tailpiece and Grover Rotomatic tuners, are original and the nickel plating is showing some natural oxidation, but little actual wear. Fretwear is light.

MORE →Overall, this C.F. Martin 000-28 Steel String guitar is in very nice condition, with minor wear. The finish doesn’t have any significant scratches, just very light scuffing that would polish well. Fret wear is light to moderate, and there’s plenty of material for a light fret dress to make them look new. The guitar has been played, but well cared for. This body style is tonally much more even than the big D body Dreadnoughts, which tend to be weighted towards bass.

MORE →A Gregory Byers Classical guitar is rare to see on the used market. He generally builds as many as twelve guitars per year, to order. His instruments are usually built one at a time, allowing Byers to give maximum attention to each specific guitar. Byers builds single top guitars (as opposed to double top), though he does use other techniques such as the ‘Elevated Fingerboard’ which really involves the top dropping down towards the heel.
