This model has been a favourite with a wide range of guitarists, from Gene Autry to Jimmy Page, Pete Townsend to Tex Ritter.

❌SOLD❌Gibson Les Paul Standard Pelham Blue, 2016

Here’s an unusual find – a very good condition Gibson Les Paul Standard in Pelham Blue, built as a 2016 model and dating to the last day of 2015.  The Gibson Les Paul Standard appeared as a 1958 model and introduced Gibson’s new humbucking pickups. Prior to this, the Les Paul had been available in several forms – the Les Paul, Les Paul Custom, Les Paul Special and Les Paul Junior. All of those used P90 pickups except the Custom, which carried an AlNiCo ‘Staple Top’ pickup in the neck position.

SOLD Gibson R8 Les Paul Tom Murphy Aged Sunburst, 2002

SOLD Gibson R8 Les Paul Tom Murphy Aged Sunburst, 2002

The Gibson R8 reproduces the famed 1958 Les Paul Standard model, the first in the line to include both a sunburst finish and the then-new PAF humbucker pickups. Launched in 1952, the Gibson Les Paul model put a carved Maple cap on a Mahogany slab, and paired that with a Mahogany neck with Rosewood fingerboard and a gold-top finish. The Les Paul custom soon followed, but without the Maple cap – the body was all Mahogany, including the carved top – and with an Ebony fingerboard and Black finish. For 1958, the Les Paul Standard appeared, using the same Maple and Mahogany construction but with a Sunburst finish.

❌SOLD❌ Gretsch 6131 Jet Firebird, 1962

❌SOLD❌ Gretsch 6131 Jet Firebird, 1962

Here’s a rarity – a Gretsch 6131 Jet Firebird in great condition and dating to 1962, its second year as a double cutaway.   This model is perhaps most visually associated with the late Malcolm Young of AC/DC.   The Gretsch G6131 Jet appeared in 1955, following the 1953 release of the Duo-Jet, perhaps as the Gretsch response to the Gibson Les Paul. At that point it featured a single cutaway body with an arched top – but instead of being solid, the body was chambered to reduce weight and produce a more ‘acoustic’ tone, towards Gretsch’s other arched-top models. The pattern of an archtop-style floating bridge rather than a fixed bridge like the Les Paul was still used.
