MORE →This Natural Maple Lado Solo 1 likely dates to 1981, when the through-neck design really took off for companies like Lado and B.C Rich. Many top level players used these guitar designs as an alternative to the standard Gibson and Fender models; they offered new looks and vastly more tonal possibilities.

MORE →Built in Scarborough – the eastern part of Toronto – around 1991, this Lado Supra 1 shows off the quality of Joseph Kovacic’s work in building Superstrat style guitars. Here we’re looking at a Lado Supra 1, a single pickup version of the Supra. It features Lado’s typican neck through design with elegantly sculptured heel. There’s no restriction on access to the upper frets on these.

MORE →The Lado Falcon is a quintessential 1980’s guitar, pairing sustain and clarity with visual effects and playability. These guitars, like those from BC Rich and other builders, provided serious alternatives to Fender and Gibson models. The Lado Guitar Company was founded by Joseph Kovacic and for many years was based at 920 Kingston Road in Toronto. The next tenant was the brand-new Guitarists’ Pro Shop run by Grant MacNeill and Dan Charman named The Twelfth Fret. Lado moved to larger quarters in Scarborough, and in 1981 to a much larger facility in Uxbridge, Ontario, about 74 kilometers north of Toronto.

MORE →This very nicely built Olivo Chiliquinga Requinto Guitar was built in Toronto, Canada during 1982 by Olivo Chiliquinga at his Olivo Guitar Company workshop. It is constructed with a Cedar top, Indian Rosewood for the back, sides, headplate and bridge, mahogany for the neck and ebony for the fingerboard. The tuners are quality Schaller models, gold-coloured with faux pearl buttons. It also sports a set of the original Twelfth Fret bridge transducer pickups, mounted to an end-pin jack. This wonderful instrument plays well and is in overall good condition, with a few small marks on the top and back acquired over the last 36 years. A hard shell case, possibly the original, is included and is in working order.
