❌ SOLD ❌ C. F. Martin Grand J-12 40e Twelve String Jumbo Acoustic, 2011

This C. F. Martin Grand J-12 40e Special is a close cousin of the fantastic 2005 Martin J-40 posted recently. The Grand J-12 40e is a 12-string guitar, using a slightly larger version of the J body, with ’40’ level Abalone decorations and a DTAR multi-source pickup system. The Grand J body is somewhat bigger than a the standard J, and has a remarkably full bottom end and midrange presence delivered without hesitation. The top end is as bright and sparkly as you would expect from a Sitka Spruce top.

❌SOLD❌ Gibson Les Paul Studio Gloss Vintage Burst, 2013

❌SOLD❌ Gibson Les Paul Studio Gloss Vintage Burst, 2013

This Gibson Les Paul Studio is in great, original condition, with very little wear. It has all the elements of a Les Paul – the maple capped mahogany body (with weight relief) and mahogany neck. The unbound fingerboards are now Granadillo, in response to restrictions on Indian Rosewood; Granadillo is a South American Rosewood that is very commonly used for instruments on the southern continent. The Gibson Les Paul Studio is one of the better deals in quality electric guitars. Built on the same plan and same machines as other Les Paul Models, the Studio lacks binding and often has less elaborate, and less expensive, finishes. This one, dating to August 15 2013 at Nashville, sports a gloss vintage sunburst.

❌SOLD❌ William Laskin Classical Guitar, 2001

❌SOLD❌ William Laskin Classical Guitar, 2001

this guitar, built during 2001 at Laskin’s shop in Toronto, Canada, needs no decoration beyond the spectacular grain of its Brazilian Rosewood back, sides, headplate and bridge. This set shows off the key visual elements of this species – the dark veining, deep patterning, and a subtle orange glow. The top is red cedar, the neck spanish cedar, and the fingerboard ebony. The bass bout includes the Laskin Arm-rest, designed to make the player more comfortable without compromising any of the tonal characteristics of the box. It is built in the traditional Spanish method, with a ‘slipper foot’ that the sides slot into.

❌SOLD❌ Fender Stratocaster Elite Sunburst 1983

❌SOLD❌ Fender Stratocaster Elite Sunburst 1983

Here’s a rare bird – from 1983, a Fender Stratocaster Elite in sunburst. This model was built only in 1983 and 1984, and introduced a number of new features and hardware pieces. Most visible of these are the short-lived FreeFlyte knife-edge trem, and the pushbutton pickup selectors. New pickups were installed, and the output jack went on the side – in this case, a Neutrix locking jack. With the three pickup switches, all pickup combinations are available. Not so immediately apparent is the routing. From the top, this guitar looks very much like a Stratocaster. But if you turn it over, you see that there is no cover, or route, for the trem springs, just a small plate covering access to the output jack wiring.

❌ SOLD ❌ Alexander James Jazz Tribute Bass, Wenge and Maple, 2013

❌ SOLD ❌ Alexander James Jazz Tribute Bass, Wenge and Maple, 2013

Alexander James hand-builds guitars and basses at his shop in Peterborough, Ontario. He specializes in using exotic woods to achieve specific tones. He has been building since 2002, and has operated Alexander James Guitars since 2008. This bass is in very good condition with very little wear – especially to the stainless steel frets, which should last a very long time. The finish is a natural oil, and shows off the grain nicely. This bass does have a bit of heft at over 11 pounds, but has lots of sustain, top end and bite, yet still has a warm roundness to the tone. A hard shell case is included.

❌ SOLD ❌ C. F. Martin 000-15S Steel String Guitar Mahogany, 2006

❌ SOLD ❌ C. F. Martin 000-15S Steel String Guitar Mahogany, 2006

The C. F. Martin 000-15S Steel String Guitar  body size looks back to Martin’s early history, first appearing in 1906 as the 000-18. Previously, the 0 and 00 sizes drew from Georg Stauffer and traditional designs. As far back as the 1820s, C F Martin worked with Stauffer in Vienna, Austria as shop foreman. In 1833 he moved to New York, finally settling in the more familiarly Germanic area of Nazareth, Pennsylvania. The early guitars built there strongly resemble the ‘0’ body size. These body designs produce a well balanced, even tone with good representation across the frequency range. As the body size increases, the potential for output volume does too – the 000 is the loudest of the group. The use of mahogany for the top provides a warm, rich tone, not quite as bright or sparkly as spruce can provide.
