FON’s were used at various times, and from 1952 to 1961 started with a letter code, counting down from Z to Q. Y represents 1953, and this guitar was the 26th in batch 4011.

Featuring the same mahogany slab body and mahogany neck as other SG models, the Gibson SG Special first used a pair of P-90 pickups and an intonated, combination stop-bridge tailpiece. Some versions, such as this one, also carried a short-format Maestro Vibrola tailpiece.
