Deering has done it again with this innovative variation on their Sierra Bluegrass banjo! By simply eliminating the heavy flange and resonator the Sierra open-back offers a voice very much in the spirit of the famed Vega #2 Tubaphone at a far lower price.
The Deering Boston Open Back 6 String Banjo is built specifically for The Twelfth Fret. Many guitar players find that they want to incorporate banjo tones, but don’t want to learn a new instrument. The stock Deering Boston Open Back 6 addresses this need, but we find that the tone is too harsh. So, we’ve had Deering mate the standard Boston 6 neck with a Vega Little Wonder wooden tone ring pot. This offers the warmest and fattest tone possible for a six string banjo, and brings the weight down to about 7 pounds.

MORE →The Deering Goodtime Solana Six nylon string banjo is Deering’s response to repeated requests from its customers to create a 6-string Goodtime banjo. The Solana Six stands out from the pack with its nylon strings, offering a sweet, mellow tone and touch response akin to a classical guitar, with the bright undertones of a banjo. It uses the new Deering 12 inch Grand pot, which adds to the warmth of the instrument.
