The Roosebeck 5-course Baroque guitar is based on historic instruments, and is built using materials not covered by CITES export restrictions. The top is Spruce, the body and neck are a combination of light-coloured Lacewood and darker Sheesham. Lacewood is a term used for a variety of woods but often Roupala Brasiliensis, while Sheesham is Dalbergia Sissoo, also known as North Indian Rosewood. On some versions of this instrument, Mid-East has used Walnut in place of Sheesham.

Built by at the SCGC shop run by Richard Hoover in Santa Cruz, California, this older Santa Cruz D Model features a Sitka Spruce top (since 2019, it’s been Adirondack Spruce) and Indian Rosewood for the back and sides. The neck is Mahogany, also used for the body blocks and linings, while Ebony is used for the bridge and bound fingerboard. MORE →The Gibson Les Paul Gold Top appeared in 1952 and rapidly began evolving and improving until reaching a fairly stable form in 1954. Initially, the Les Paul was equipped with a Les Paul-designed bridge-trapeze tailpiece combination, but also a very low neck angle. By early 1953, the trapeze was replaced with a stop-bar bridge. Soon after, the new ABR-1 bridge, known as the Tune-O-Matic, was added paired with a stop tailpiece.

MORE →Coming from the now shuttered Memphis plant in 2015, the Gibson ES Les Paul combined classic Les Paul aesthetics with the immensely successful thinline ES concept. Along with the plant, this model has, as such, been discontinued by Gibson’s new management. The new ES-235 is perhaps its replacement in this class.
