The Ludwig Drum Company started in 1909 and by the early 1920’s realized that banjos are closely related to drums, and offered a range of models. However, by the early 1930’s as banjos started to wane, Ludwig moved back to its core business – and is still a respected name in drum manufacturing.

The F-Style mandolin has become one of the benchmark instruments for country, bluegrass, celtic, and traditional music forms. And, if you take a listen to Chris Thile, they can do Bach to the full potential of the player. Closely related to the Eastman MD814-V model, the F soundhole and its enhanced treble attack tilts the Eastman MD815-V towards Bluegrass and Country repertoires, compared to the F-holes on the MD815/V.

MORE →This example of the National Style 1.5 Tricone Resophonic is dated 09-04 (September 2004) and is in overall good condition. The body is brass with nickel plating and a double-line engraving around the edge (the nickel plating presents a few challenges to capturing an image). Nickel has a tendency to lightly tarnish over time; this is one of the reasons many shifted to Chrome as a longer lasting plating material.

This 12-fret neck example, dating to March 2015 and built at the National plant in San Luis Obispo, California, blends features of the Style O and Style O Deluxe, particularly in the choice of Mother of Pearl diamond shape position markers. It is in pristine condition with the original hard shell case.
