Here’s something new from National Resophonic – the T14 N, 14 fret cutaway Tricone with Bright Nickel Finish has arrived!
14 Fret
The National Resophonic NRP-B 14 in wood body form has a warmer, sweeter tone than the metal body versions, but offers just as much volume and responsiveness. It’s also somewhat lighter at 5.5 pounds. The scale length is a comfortable 25 inches. The body is built of Maple laminate, with a slotted-headstock Mahogany neck and Ebony fingerboard.
The National Style O 14-fret model dates back to the early days of Resophonic guitars, as banjo players migrated to guitar and wanted access to more fret. The 14-fret to the body Style O was introduced in 1935 by the National Stringed Instrument Corporation. It came with either the Traditional Sieve pattern cover plate or the newly introduced Chicken Foot cover plate. in 1935 this guitar had a slotted headstock with a decal.
This very nice example of the Gibson L-00 Steel String Guitar dates to 1936 and is in good working order. It was recently set up in our shop and thoroughly inspected. All the braces are intact and tightly glued in place. At some point in its life, it’s had a neck reset, and possibly at that time the sides, back and heel were oversprayed with a clear lacquer. This would have been done partly because Gibson’s production method installs the neck to the body before finishing, so a removing the neck to reset the dovetail causes finish damage.

MORE →First appearing in 1926, the Gibson L-0 uses a curvaceous, smaller 13.4 inch wide body. Initially made with Spruce top and Birch back and sides, in 1928 it became all Mahogany until 1933, when production ended. They were built again from 1937 to 1942, but with Spruce for the top again and Mahogany back, sides and neck. On all of them, the fingerboards are Rosewood, which at the time meant Brazilian Rosewood.
