We have been extremely pleased over the last thirty years to represent the exceptional work of luthier G W Barry. Following a five year working/apprenticeship in Jean-Claude Larrivee’s west coast shop, Gordon began the full time pursuit of guitar building and has been in constant demand ever since.
As a one man shop, Mr. Barry is involved in absolutely every aspect of the design, execution and finishing of his guitars. The clean lines and overall attention to detail set his instruments apart from most of his competition. These instruments are one of the few lines we carry that can genuinely be characterized as “handmade”!
Sonically G. W. Barry’s instruments can be best characterized as extremely responsive with overall warmth, clarity and distinction in the bass registers, solid highs and very unique soft, delicate midrange that is not only very appealing but somehow cuts through in the mix without being strident … a distinctive overall tonality that really is complex and engaging.
Respected as a guitar/mandolin player, composer and recording artist in his own right, Gordon has an especially good rapport with musicians with regards to the custom aspects of crafting a world class instrument. His instruments have attracted such players as Garnet Rogers, Jim Pirri, John Findlay, Kevin Breit, Don Bray,William Elwood, Peter Mueller, David Martin, David Bradstreet and many more players of note….and even actor Beau Bridges!
Here are some kind words from G W Barry customers!
Hi Gord,
The long awaited guitar has finally arrived this morning. Very pleased with the performance. The guitar is light, loud and has a rumbling bass response.
I’m a collector and believe me I’ve a collection of prestigious guitars such as Walker, Olsen, Somogyi and Manzer. Your guitar is up there with them… if not surpassing them. I’ve read rave reviews on your guitars and now playing is believing.
Cheers,
Michael K, Hong Kong (re: his Orchestra Model )
Hi Gordon,
There are no words to show my gratitude for you making me this wonderful, simply beautiful piece of grand art.
Blessings,
Yungdra A, Singapore ( re: his modified Concert Model)
Hi Gord,
Just wanted you to know that I’m still over the moon about this guitar.
I showed it to Joe Yanuziello and he was very impressed. He said “she’s a Lamborghini”.
I can’t keep my hands off of her ….
Don Bray, On. ( re: his Concert Cutaway Model)
…. bloody marvelous!
Trevor Moyle, Brighton,U.K. ( re: 000+ model)
Playing it for the first time – I can honestly say I was floored. I hate describing sounds with words but I will say the sound of this instrument has exceeded all my (already very high) expectations…”

Mr. Barry
I am from Florida. I flew in 2 days ago to Buffalo, NY and drove up from
Niagara Falls to Toronto just to play your guitars.
I didn’t get through all the traffic until 4:45 so I had a very limited time….
( once at the store). I did manage to grab someone to point me in
the direction of the Madagascar cutaway. The sound was so “buttery” if I can use
that analogy. It was so musical! Simply wonderful. I had so much fun playing
it. The side port really let me monitor what I was playing. I am a
singer/songwriter and at times have trouble hearing the guitar because
everything is projected out and away from me.
