The Mission 5E3 Deluxe Tweed kit by Bruce Collins in Boulder, Colorado was sold for a number of years and was one of the few ways to get the sound and look of a mid-1950’s Fender Deluxe amp. The 5E3 Deluxe delivers 12 to 15 watts through a single 12 inch speaker, and wears a lacquered tweed covering. This is a class AB circuit, all tube with a pair of 6V6 power tubes, 12AY7 and 12AX7 preamp tubes. There are two channels, Normal and Bright, with volumes for each and a master tone control. These amps are point to point, hand wired.
Turn it up, and the 5E3 delivers a very rich, full tone and fantastic overdrive. The 5E3 is heard on recordings from ZZ Top, Neil Young, and the Eagles among many other artists.
Fender has also reissued this amp in their Vintage and Pro Tube line based on a 1957 model, using the same Mercury Magnetics transformers as the Mission kit, but at a significantly higher price.
This Mission 5E3 Deluxe Tweed kit amp is in great shape, and is loaded with a 12 inch Celestion Blue Vox speaker.
Mission has been in operation since 1979, and now produces amps like this for guitar and harmonica.
