The Fender Twin Amp was the go-to amp for performing and touring guitarists from 1952 to 1963, growing from 15 to 80 watts through two 12 inch speakers and finally replaced in 1963 by the Twin Reverb.
By late 1959, the ‘Piggyback’ style of amp, with separate head and speaker cabinet entered production, and the Twin Amp was the most powerful Combo style amp available from Fender. The early ‘Piggyback’ amps – the Bandmaster, Bassman, Showman and Tremolux were wrapped in a ‘Blonde’ tolex, and the only combo to get that was the Twin Amp. All other Fender amps of the period, late ’59 to 1963, used a darker brown tolex. In later 1963 to 1967 these finishes were replaced by the ‘Blackface’ style, followed by ‘Silverface’ amps into the early 1980s.
Here we’re looking at a beautiful Fender Twin Amp with the 6G8-A 80-watt circuit, built during 1962 in Fullerton California, in its original Blonde tolex and matching grille cloth. The front and rear panels use the ‘oxblood’ finish, with white plastic knobs. This amp has had its filter capacitors replaced, as is necessary over time, and there is a bag of original caps included. The original two-prong power cord has been replaced with a modern grounded 3-prong cable, essential for safety. The amp is now loaded with Weber 12F speakers. The original Vibrato pedal is included.
This Fender Twin amp is in good condition with a few small tears to the Blonde tolex and grille cloth. It has a great sound with a full, rich vibrato – there’s really nothing like the tone and feel of an amp like this at its native volume.
