Michael Gurian guitars were built from 1970 to 1981. Gurian was a rising force in American guitar building, and in 1971 moved from a small shop in New York City where he had worked since 1965, to a factory in Hinsdale, New Hampshire.
From the New Hampshire factory, Gurian produced many high quality guitars. However, in 1979, the factory burned down and though he was able to rebuild – the 1980s were not kind to acoustic guitar builders. Synthesizers were in the forefront and displaced a lot of other music for a time. Before long, Gurian had to fold the guitar building business.
However, Gurian did not leave the guitar business entirely. He now focuses on providing parts and materials to other guitar builders and has been quite successful at this.
