The Kay company operated out of Chicago, Illinois and from 1931 to 1968 mass produced millions of guitars, mandolins, banjos, violins and related instruments for the North American and world markets.
Kay produced instruments for department and catalog stores as well, including Montgomery Ward and Sears. These often used brand names like Silvertone, Kamico, Sherwood, Airline, Penncrest, and Truetone among many others.
