Ignacio M Rozas was born in Madrid during 1943 and first apprenticed as a cabinet maker, and then was hired by Jose Ramírez III and Palino Bernabe. He worked with Ramirez for ten years, from 1959 to 1969, and then for Manuel Contreras for 17 years.
Finally in 1987 he set up his own shop at Calle Mayor 66, with a year off in 2001. From 2002 to 2008, he shared his shop with Mariano Tezanos and Teodoro Perez, two other Madrid luthiers who had also worked for Ramírez. He retired in 2008.
There are two main strains of Ignacio M Rozas guitars, his hand-built advanced and professional or concert grade instruments, and a line of quality student guitars factory built for him by Alhambra, labelled “Guitarra de Artesania”.
