1964 Gibson SG Junior (SOLD)

The Gibson SG Junior, like the Les Paul Junior, was built to provide a quality instrument at a lower price point. In fact, the SG Junior at one point was the Les Paul Junior.

The Les Paul Junior was introduced in 1954, using a mahogany slab single cutaway body. But in 1961, the complete rebuild of the Les Paul in double cutaway form was applied to the Junior as well. For 1961 and 1962, these Juniors were marked as Les Paul Juniors. In 1963, with the end of Gibson's deal with Les Paul, the 'Les Paul' logo was removed and the names officially changed to Gibson SG and Gibson SG Junior.

This 1964 Gibson SG Junior is in good condition with minor wear and no breakage. The original P-90 pickup is in place, with master volume and tone controls.

There is some finish wear, and the tuners and bridge have been changed. The tuners are now vintage-style machines with tulip buttons - the originals would have been white plastic ovals. The original stop bar bridge has been changed to a Leo Quan Badass bridge.

The Leo Quan Badass bridge was one of the early very successful 3rd party guitar accessories, and helped launch the accessory market. Fitting directly onto the existing bridge posts with no modification, the Badass dramatically improved tuning. It's interesting to listen to recordings from before and after these parts appeared - guitars are suddenly much closer to being in tune.

A period hardshell case is included; the original case for a Junior would likely have been a fibre (cardboard) model.
