| JAM : Guitar Effects Pedals |
| Once again I've enlisted our own
Mike McAvan's help in introducing yet another line of boutique guitar pedals.
On Mike's suggestion, we've decided to concentrate more on handmade
effects that are a bit less mainstream. Here's another installment
of Mr. McAvan's inimitable prose that features the handmade JAM pedals! |
.
At the Twelfth Fret, we’re always
on the look out for cool new products. Pedals are something that ooze instant
gratification. For relatively little money, you can completely change your
sound with the simple stomp of a switch. Pedals come in so many shapes,
sizes and colors. Enter JAM pedals.
We instantly fell in love with these “designer”
pedals handmade in Greece. They are built one at a time, with love and
patience and are all uniquely hand painted by the amazing and talented
Aggelos K. in various colors, motifs with names humorously close to the
original historical designations. They even come with a unique tie string
bag that looks like it was sewn by someone’s “giagia” (It means “Grandmother”in
greek for those not in the know).
Aesthetics aside, these pedals are absolutely amazing.
They are beefed up versions of classic pedals that we all love. We encourage
you all to come down and try out some of these wonderful tone boxes and
yell “Opa! Yassou Mihali” from the test rooms. All we need to go with them
is some saganaki and galaktoboureko. Plate throwing is optional!

| It’s no secret that I’ve always hated chorus
pedals. I hate the way they get over used, especially in the 80’s, and
I hate the way most of them suck the life out of your sound like Bela Lugosi
after a week on a desert island with no food. I can’t stand them, period.
Enter the Waterfall chorus by JAM pedals. I admittedly was drawn by it’s
sexy stucco blue exterior but was instantly won over by it’s thick and
musical chorus sound. Amazingly enough everything I hate about chorus pedals
was squashed by the fact that my guitar still sounded like my guitar. This
is the best chorus on the market, period, and end of sentence. It is powered
by a set of original NOS Panasonic MN3101 and ??3007 chips and the result
is a vintage, transparent but thick, sweet chorus that changed my opinion
of this once over used effect. It also features a Vibrato setting and a
cool intensity switch. It is rounded out by a true bypass design that keeps
it transparent in your signal chain. |

|
| This pedal has the classic Tubescreamer
sound using the JRC4558 chip like the vintage Ibanez TS808 going for a
small fortune on E-bay. Not only is this pedal a more cost effective solution,
but the designer graphics and the true bypass design make it a way better
value and sonically superior solution. With beefed up resistors and diodes
along with the true bypass switch, this pedal is a marvel of tone with
some modern appointments. |

| JAM Tube Dreamer 72 Effects Pedal |
| This is the lower gain cousin of
the Tube Dreamer 58. It’s a bit more transparent for boosting and less
spiky in the midrange. They employ all the upgraded caps and diodes as
well as a “secret chip” that has nothing to do with Tostitos and everything
to do with a tube-like response and super dynamic overdrive. This is the
same circuit that goes into the Tube Dreamer Plus. |

|
| A modern take on a legendary pedal, the Fuzz
Phrase is a must have for sixties rock and fuzz enthusiasts. They have
spared no expense on parts with this pedal. It’s armed with the best caps
and diodes available along with the best germanium transistors around …
the extremely rare Gold Mullard OC-44’s. They are hand picked for gain
and leakage to ensure the highest quality standard for this pedal. The
true bypass adds another modern appointment to this amazingly robust and
musical fuzz pedal! |

JAM Red Muck
Pedal
. |
| If you're like me and love distortion pedals,
then you know that everyone should own a Big Muff Pi, especially the Russian
made one. There is no pedal ruder, or any that has sparked more debate
over which reigns supreme; the Russian made Big Muff or its USA made counterpart.
I’m all over the Russian version. It seemed to have more attitude and was
once rumored to be made by the Siberian Space program technicians ... no
really!!! The Red Muck stays true to the original Russian made crunch box
and is updated with a true bypass switch. This bad boy is all about low
fidelity chaos and is ironically made with the highest quality carbon film
resistors. As if politics weren’t confusing enough?!! |
