Happy 35th Anniversary Taylor!

Almost before the words "armrest", "Florentine cutaway", "Grand Symphony" and "exotic woods" were out of our sales rep Steve Parr's mouth, we knew these guitars were a must have! Taylor Guitars turns 35 years old this year but its really the guitar lovers that should be celebrating with the release of their new and exotic anniversary series guitars.

These limited anniversary Grand Symphony guitars feature a beveled edge on the bass side of the guitars lower bout. This provides an elegant contour which is aesthetically pleasing and functions as a very comfortable armrest for the players picking arm. Inspired by the armrest created by renowned luthier Grit Laskin, these ebony armrests are the perfect addition to the exotic wood sets and high end features offered on these guitars. All of these guitars feature a different exotic back and sides wood set, Sitka spruce top, Florentine cutaway, Gotoh 510 tuners and Taylor Expression System electronics. With only 35 of these wonderful instruments available we are very please to be offering the only three in Canada!!!

Taylor Custom GS Macassar Ebony

Taylor GS Macassar Ebony Armrest Guitar

The AA Macassar Ebony on the back and sides on this GS is striking to say the least. I'm sure the dark stripes on this wood set would make the proudest Zebra jealous. Macassar ebony is a dense hardwood which is clear and loud with lots of presence and a broad dynamic range. The slightly scooped midrange with strong bass and lower mids works really well on this larger body guitar specifically for big chord strumming. In Bob Taylor's words: "It' dark, it's dense, it's heavy. It's killer for a very manly, old school strum."

Taylor Custom GS Cocobolo

Taylor GS Cocobolo Armrest Guitar

Ok, I am a self admitted Cocobolo fan but this set is just ridiculous! The redish orange coloring and swirling dark grain lines are down right mesmorizing. Another dense hardwood found in central Mexico, Cocobolo is fast and responsive with a moderate note decay and lots of note distinction. With a unique blend of mahogany-like midrange and maple-like top end this tone wood is sonically similar to Koa with a bit deeper bass response. Cocobolo works really well on a GS body by blending the wood's brightness with the midrange and low end of the body shape. This guitar is great for players that want a rosewood type sound with a bit less low end and more treble zing!

Taylor Custom GS Walnut

Last but not least in this superb trio of guitars is the walnut GS! This set of figured Walnut has some hints of light red coloring mixed in with the light and dark brown grain lines. This hardwood is similar to Koa in its stiffness, density and initial tightness. The bright top end is complemented by more present midrange and bit deeper low end making it sound slightly more woody than Koa. The bass and lower midrange frequencies should continue to fill out as this guitar is played in.

The combination of walnut on a Grand Symphony model with a spruce top provides ample headroom, crisp highs and a low end that impressively supports an aggressive attack. This is a perfect guitar for players that like a blend of brightness, projection and great warm overtones.

(Maybe I can sneak this one home if no one is looking!!)
