| Ignacio Fleta is generally considered to be one
of the very best builders of classical guitars of the 20th century.
Born in the year 1897 into a family of cabinet builders, by 1927
Fleta had set up his own instrument building shop in Barcelona Spain.
After hearing Andres Segovia in 1955, Ignacio decided to devote the
rest of his career to building concert classical guitars exclusively.
Within ten years he was receiving orders from the likes of Andres Segovia
and John Williams.
As Fleta's guitars evolved, he developed
a personal style that was significantly different from the traditional
Torres model. His guitars offered a stiffer box with more mass,
eventually incorporating a bracing pattern that featured 9 fan struts and
4 harmonic cross braces on Western Red cedar tops.
Alejandro Cervantes has not only reproduced
the unique physical characteristics specific to the Fleta design,
but has also recreated the rich muscular tone that will be forever associated
with Ignatio Fleta's considerable reputation. |
