SOLD!!! 1961 Gibson L-4C Archtop Guitar Sunburst

Appearing in 1949 and available until 1971, the Gibson L-4C is a fully acoustic cutaway archtop, with a solid, carved spruce top and maple back and sides. It shares a body shape with the better known ES-175, which appeared in the same year, but the ES-175's body is all maple laminate to help suppress feedback.

This L-4C example dates to 1961 and sports a McCarty pickguard-pickup combination, in the single pickup form. The McCarty pickup appeared in 1948 and was aimed at archtop players who needed to amplify their guitars, but didn't want to cut holes to mount a pickup - if one was available. Single and double pickup configurations were available. The pickup is similar to a Gibson P-90 but is thinner, and all the electronics mount on the pickguard. Long ago, a screw was added to the pickguard to secure it to the top.

This guitar is in good playing condition with expected fretwear - it is strung with flatwounds, which are pretty easy on frets but over time the lowest position frets have worn. Still, it plays cleanly. A non-original hardshell case is included.
