S/N: 141331, built during 1954 at the C F Martin plant in Nazareth, Pennsylvania.
This is just lovely. Built during 1954, this is a C. F. Martin D-28 dreadnought steel string acoustic guitar. As with all D-28s of the era, it uses Brazilian rosewood for the back and sides, and the figuring on this particular wood set is pretty wild.
Martin stopped using Brazilian on any regular production guitars in 1969, along with other builders like Gibson.
The Martin D-28 is one of the classic instruments, copied by virtually every other steel string guitar builder. This guitar is in good playing condition, with the Made in USA stamp on the back of the headstock, some finish wear on the back of neck, some scuffing on the back finish (the camera flash really emphasised this) and there is some wear on the top near the pickguard. And as expected, it sounds great.
