1930 Gibson L4 Archtop Guitar (SOLD)

The Gibson L4 archtop guitar appeared in 1912, as one of Orville Gibson's innovations - combining violin technology with guitar design. In 1928, the oval soundhole was replaced by a round hole, and this was used until 1934. For the 1935 model, F-holes appeared. This marked the end of the use of round holes on arched top guitars.

 

The rather faded label designates the model as a Gibson L4, but common usage is to call it a Gibson L-4. This applies to most of the L archtop series.

 

This Gibson L-4 dates to around 1930, was built at the Gibson Kalamazoo plant and is in almost all original, very playable condition with the original case. One tuner button shaft has been replaced (the G). The lacquer sunburst finish is in good condition, with lots of authentic, natural checking.
