❌SOLD❌ 1930 Gibson F-2 Mandolin

Brand:

Instrument Categories: ,

Here is a nice Gibson F-2 Mandolin from 1930. It’s been used and repaired over the years but plays well and has that vintage Gibson tone.

The Gibson F-2 appeared in 1902 and was built until 1934. It was one of the results of Orville Gibson’s inspired blending of violin, mandolin and guitar construction styles, which influenced many subsequent designs. The F-2 has an oval sound hole, which is now found only on A-style instruments. The oval soundhole was also found on many arch-top guitars until the mid 1930s, and afterwards it was replaced with F-holes almost universally.

This Gibson F-2 has been used as intended over the years, and has had some repaired damage. There are crack repairs on the top, back, lower side and scroll – the scroll is always a vulnerable section. The truss rod cover has been engraved with a previous owner’s name, probably the original owner. The pickguard and bracket are missing. Still, the instrument is in good working order, plays well and sounds good. A non-original Japanese hardshell case is included.
